Marantz, a long time AV manufacturer whose name is virtually synonymous with “high-end,” has announced this year’s AVR models. Among the key features of this new line of receivers is its 8K compatibility. Yes, you read that right! The new AVRs from Marantz are ready to accept 8K input sources and come equipped with the latest HDMI upgrades such as Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode.

The four new models are as follows:

  • The SR5015, with 7 amplifier channels / 7.2 processing channels with preamp outputs. This unit boasts 100 watts per channel and 180 watts of output power. It offers 6 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs. Not bad at all for a least expensive unit of a series. Omitted from the SR5015 is the IMAX Enhanced feature (included in the other three units below), as well as the Auro 3D and DTS:X Pro.

  • The SR6015 has 9 amplifier channels / 11.2 processing channels with preamp outputs. Offering 110 watts per channel and 185 watts of output power, 7 HDMI inputs and 3 outputs, the SR6015 is a great choice for any moderately-sized surround sound home theater. The SR6015 does not feature Auro 3D and DTS:X Pro.

  • The SR7015 has 9 amplifier channels / 11.2 processing channels with preamp outputs. With 125 watts per channel and 200 watts of output power. There are 8 HDMI inputs and 3 HDMI outputs here. Like it’s less expensive sibling the SR7015 is designed for an 11.2 surround-sound system. Unlike its sibling, the SR7015 offers Auro 3D. The SR7015 does not offer DTS:X Pro. For that we need go to the flagship model below.

  • The SR8015 is the best AVR that Marantz has ever offered and is sure to satisfy even the most discerning / demanding home theater enthusiast. With an 11 amp channel / processing channel layout, the SR8015 offers a whopping 140 watts per channel and 205 watts of output power. It offers 8 HDMI inputs and 3 outputs. It comes souped up with IMAX Enhanced, Auro 3D, DTS:X Pro and a variety of other features.

From a projector standpoint, we care especially that Marantz has upgraded the HDMI technologies in their new line of AVRs. Among its most substantial features is its new dedicated 8K HDMI input offering 8K/60Hz and 4K/120/Hz video pass-through. While the new series supports standard HDR10, it now is compatible with HDR10+. Another significant feature of the new line is its compatibility with any HEOS compatible hardware. Regarding the classic Marantz sound quality, each of the new Marantz line is that each model carries Marantz’s own Hyper Dynamic Amplification Module circuitry on each channel. This provides a wider dynamic range and the highest possible sound quality.

It is hard for us to imagine a better value in the uber-high-end 8K AVR category than the new Marantz line. If you are looking for the best receiver for your home theater setup, we don’t hesitate to recommend the Marantz SR series as the definitive choice.
