Formovie Announces Theater Ultra UST Projector: 3,500 ISO Lumens and ALPD 5.0 Technology

Formovie has officially announced its latest high-performance laser projector: the Formovie Theater Ultra. Positioned as a powerful step up in the brand's premium lineup, the Theater Ultra is engineered for users who want the industry-leading color and contrast Formovie is known for, but with the added punch required for larger screens and varied lighting conditions.

The Theater Ultra represents a significant evolution of the award-winning Theater series, focusing on substantial upgrades to the light engine and processing power to meet the demands of modern 4K HDR content.

Advanced ALPD RGB+ 5.0 and 3,500 ISO Lumens

The Theater Ultra delivers a notable increase in light output, reaching 3,500 ISO Lumens. This 50% increase in brightness over the Theater Premium allows the projector to maintain a vivid, high-contrast image on screens up to 150 inches, even in rooms that are not perfectly light-controlled.

This performance is driven by the ALPD RGB+ 5.0 Triple-Laser light engine. This fifth-generation technology is designed to leverage the benefits of pure RGB lasers—specifically a wide color gamut—while utilizing ALPD's phosphor technology to virtually eliminate the "laser speckle" that can sometimes affect pure laser systems. Formovie reports that the Ultra covers over 110% of the BT.2020 color space, offering some of the most saturated and accurate colors available in the UST category.

Market-Leading Native Contrast

One of the defining features of the Formovie series has always been its native contrast, and the Theater Ultra continues that tradition. It maintains a 3,000:1 native contrast ratio, which is exceptional for a projector at this brightness level. By focusing on native contrast rather than dynamic iris tricks, the Theater Ultra ensures that deep blacks and shadow details remain intact even during bright, high-action scenes.

Bowers & Wilkins Audio and Integrated Google TV

Formovie continues its premium audio partnership with Bowers & Wilkins for the Theater Ultra. The projector features a custom-engineered 30W sound system designed to provide a wide soundstage and clear dialogue without the immediate need for an external soundbar. On the software side, the unit comes with Google TV built-in, offering native support for Netflix, YouTube, and other major streaming platforms in full 4K HDR.

Low-Latency Gaming and Connectivity

To cater to the growing segment of big-screen gamers, the Theater Ultra includes a specialized Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). When paired with its HDMI 2.1 connectivity, the projector is capable of providing a responsive, low-lag experience for the latest generation of gaming consoles. MEMC frame interpolation is also included to ensure smooth motion for high-speed sports and action movies.

Product Availability

The Formovie Theater Ultra is set to join the Formovie lineup as a premium flagship for 2026. While core specifications have been unveiled, final retail pricing and regional availability are expected to be announced in early 2026.
