We'll answer that question as part of our ultra short throw projector shootout series. Let's see who wins this battle between the new LG HU915Q and the older LG HU85LA.

LG is no stranger to the ultra short throw projector game. Their triple laser LG HU85LA was the first of it's kind to hit the market and continues to be one of the best laser TVs available. LG wanted to expand their offerings with a lower priced UST and they did just that with the LG HU715Q CineBeam ultra short throw projector. But now LG has just released the new LG HU915Q UST projector. There are two models that are available, the LG HU915QE and the black LG HU915QB. You can read our review of the LG HU915QE here and the LG HU915QB here.

Just like the HU85LA, the HU915Q is a triple laser projector. So what's the difference between the LG HU85LA and the new LG HU915Q laser TV? How do they compare? And most importantly, which is better the LG HU85LA or the LG HU915Q?

So Which Is Better, The LG HU915Q Or The LG HU85LA UST?

Both these UST projectors are great choices. You would be absolutely thrilled with either laser TV. But one of them has the edge in this fight.

So between the LG HU85LA and LG HU915Q the winner is………

The LG HU915Q

We often say in this business, "Bigger is better." The LG HU915Q shows that "Newer is better" too.

The LG CineBeam HU915Q wins because it provides a much brighter RBB laser light source, has deeper black levels, more powerful built-in speakers, brightness optimizer, and a few other features that makes the LG HU915Q one of the best ultra short throw projectors available. The New LG CineBeam UST also offers a lower lag time than its predecessor.

All that said, despite being two years old the LG HU85LA still provides one of the best pictures from a laser TV. If you don't want to spend the full amount for the new model, you'll definitely be content with the HU85LA.
