Projectors for Classrooms

The best projectors for teaching grade school students need to be bright enough to work in a moderately lit environment, so you’ll likely want a school projector that’s between 3500 and 5500 lumens.

With regards to the resolution you don’t necessarily need a 4K projector that can be used for home theater. For teaching purposes 1080p is a high enough resolution, though for more data oriented lesson plans you may want to go with a WUXGA projector which allows you to present more data on the screen since it’s a taller format.

You may want to consider getting a short throw or even an ultra short throw projector which would allow the teacher to walk in front of the display without blocking the projected image for the students.

Another thing to think about with a grade school projector is if each classroom would have it’s own projector mounted to the ceiling or if you would get a few school-wide projectors that could be wheeled in on an A/V cart.

Projector Screens for Classrooms

When it comes to classroom projector screens, you typically want a display that you can roll up when not in use. That’s why you ideally want a retractable projector screen that hangs from the ceiling or the wall so you don’t need to open up the ceiling to install a recessed screen. To save money on your screens, we’d recommend getting a manual pull down projector screen for the classroom.

Classroom Projector Screen Size

With regards to screen size, you’ll want to get a screen that’s not too small where students can easily read what’s being displayed, but you also don’t need a gigantic screen. We typically advise principals and school administrators to buy a class projection screen between 80 inches and 140 inches.

You will ideally want the furthest student's seat to be no more than 4.5 times the diagonal size of the classroom screen. For example, if the farthest seat from the screen is 44 feet (or 528 inches), then you'll want to get a 117 inch screen for that room. However we would typically recommend rounding up to make sure every student can easily see what the teacher is teaching.

Generally, you'll want to get a 16:10 Widescreen format screen that better matches the dimensions of most educator's computer screens.

Another great option is to get a whiteboard that can be used as a projector screen. This would allow the teacher to write on the display surface without ruining the screen.

Screens and Projectors For School Auditoriums

A school assembly hall is a larger room with a much larger audience, so you’ll need a different type of auditorium projector and projection screen combo than you would for classroom learning.

Auditorium Projector Screens

When buying a projection setup for your school auditorium, picking the cinema screen is the first step. You’ll need to consider the size of your hall, the lighting of the room and what you’ll be using it for.

With regards to auditorium screen size you’ll need a large sized projector screen for a large room. We’d recommend getting a projector screen that’s at least 120 inches diagonally.

If you plan to use the projection setup often we’d suggest getting a motorized projector screen that can be dropped down or risen up at the push of a button. If you only plan to use it for the occasional presentation we’d propose using either a folding frame projection screen or a floor rising screen that can be brought out, assembled, broken down and put away easily.

Because school auditoriums often have a significant amount of light in the room you may want to consider getting an ambient light rejecting cinema screen. As an added tip, you’ll want to make sure your screen has a wide viewing angle so students on the sides of the room can still clearly see the projection.

Auditorium Projectors

Since you’ll have a larger display size you’ll need a more powerful auditorium projector that outputs more light. Depending on the ambient light and the size of your projection screen, you’ll likely want to get a beamer that’s between a 5000 lumen projector and an 8000 lumen projector.

You’ll likely want to use a regular throw projector.

With a retractable screen you’ll want to mount the digital device from the ceiling or the lighting rigging. If you’re using a moveable projector screen it will be easier to keep your projector mobile as well so you can more easily align the two.

School Gymnasium Projectors and Screens

Gymnasiums are a great place for pep rallies and other educational presentations. Your gym projection needs are going to be similar to those of a school auditorium.
