I bought a Hisense 120L9 UST Projector (Laser TV) from Projectorscreen.com. The LaserTV comes with a high quality screen as a bundle. The screen is optimized for the LaserTV. Before we installed the screen, we projected on our wall. The quality of the picture and color is awesome. Then we got the screen professionally installed although it is not that difficult to install. Hisense provides step by step installation. The picture quality improved drastically when we projected onto our screen. We have installed a Atmos surround sound system. We have watched old shows like MONK as well as movies like Doctor strange in multiverse. It provides a movie theater experience. I don't think I will go to a theater again. Hisense lasertv is reasonably priced.

The TV with screen is cheaper than just a LaserTV from other brands like LG, Samsung, and Sony. Here are some tips for frustration free experience:

1. The remote needs pairing with the TV and a little adjustment

2. Read the instructions thoroughly. Hisense recommends the TV to be setup about 16.75 inches above floor and approx. 13 inches from the screen. There should be at least 78 3/4 inches clearance to the ceiling above the base of the TV. That means you need to have at least a 8 feet ceiling.

3. The screen height can be adjusted easily

4. The viewing area can be adjusted with the remote Overall it is a great TV with a reasonable price.

Ultimately, the projector has some major quarks that I would argue do not justify the value proposition. If I were to repeat a purchase, I would likely go with Samsung and would 100% get a UST projector with a proper focus mode for resizing the screen. The projector supports something called geometric correction for minor adjustments on a fixed 120" screen size. What's not advertised is that any use of the geometric correction will cause a halo like effect on the screen. There's light bleed through on all edges. This effect is non-existent on ANY of my other high end projectors and seems to be a unique experience for me with this. It's completely undesirable and is extremely unattractive (see my screenshot as a reference). If the projector is not aligned PERFECTLY, this is the result.. which is terrible. Beyond the harsh restrictions of the geometric correction, there's also major problems regarding eARC support. However the projector separates and processes eARC (even when audio is set to passthrough), the chipsets clearly cannot handle it. It does cause major lip sync delays. I personally solved this issue by purchasing an HDFury device and separating eARC audio before it gets to the projector. A terrible solution for such a pricy product. I do also wish they sold these projectors without the built in speaker as I don't honestly see anyone purchasing a device like this and using the speaker, but clearly they think it adds a value proposition (one I do not see). Regarding colors, it's ok. Brightness is where the sweet spot is at for living room usage and the bundled cinema screen is perfect for bright rooms with lots of light bleed. Gaming has low latency and is very nice. Other than that, the geometric correction and eARC limitations/issues are the heavy hitters that do make me recommend alternatives over this.

I have been very impressed with the Hisense L9G paired with the 100" cinema screen. This is our first laser TV and its absolutely jaw dropping. I have a very bright room with large windows, and I was very impressed with how bright this system is in my setup. It performs best in a darker room but as long as sunlight isn't beaming right on the screen, daytime viewing isn't a problem. It’s not going to be a vivid as an OLED TV but I think you will be blown away with how bright it can get in a light controller room.

When the sun goes down, and the room is dark holy cow does this laser TV perform. It can get VERY bright in a room with no lights. If you are considering one of these laser TVs, be sure to do your homework.

You need to place this on the right stand at the right height. The screen needs to be setup 15 inches above the top of the TV stand, so you need to take that into account. Also, it’s massive... make sure you have the space.

Finally, take your time setting it up correctly. The payoff is worth it if you spend the extra time getting it right the first time. Android TV on this device is very responsive. Something to note, Netflix is not yet supported on the L9G at least not yet. If you have a 3rd party device that does support Netflix, you can tie it into one of the available HDMI ports on the L9G. This is my only complaint with the device.

The colors are beautiful, my wife and I are absolutely blown away with how nice this laser TV is. I think Hisense has something special here. If you set it up correctly, I think you will appreciate this system as much as we are right now.

First impressions, to the point, it's stunning! From the vivid colors and crisp image to the sheer size of the screen we've been thoroughly impressed so far. Everything we've thrown at it from IMAX enhanced movies, NBA games, to 4K Xbox games have looked and performed flawlessly. More in depth thoughts on our use case, setup and experience below but the short and sweet is we're beyond happy with the purchase. Please excuse the organization in the pictures, we're still waiting on the final cabinet stand to arrive but wanted to make sure we had ample time to take advantage of the 100 day return promo. We purchased the Hisense 100L9G to replace a 60" Samsung LED TV that's experienced 2 failing video boards in the short span of about 3 years.

After living with red vertical lines for months I knew I wanted to replace it with not only a bigger screen but to also move away from a panel TV if possible. We took a long look at both Epson and Samsung's UST offerings before eventually settling on the Hisense as it seemed to be the best balance across the color/brightness, throw distance, input lag and general system features that were most important to our primary use cases of a mix of movie watching, sports, and semi-regular casual gaming.

We paired it with the soft cinema screen option as it would be installed in our basement theater room that is fully light controlled.

Screen Setup:

The screen assembly was mostly straight forward, though there were a few inconsistencies from the included instructions. Most were small such as one of the initial right angle brackets had an additional hole on one leg not depicted in the instructions and it was unclear which orientation it should be installed, it didn't end up mattering but still tripped us up a bit.

The worst being the orientation of the screen in the protective roll. Following the depiction in the instructions on how to unroll the screen resulted in the screen actually rolling out upside down which made for an extra challenge of flipping it over without introducing any folds or damage. Once assembled, mounting the brackets and hanging the screen were straight forward thanks to the included template.

Projector Setup:

Basic setup of the projector itself is well... basic. Set it on your stand and plug it in. From there following the on screen prompts to get it connected to your network if you're using wifi is all straight forward. Once that's done we launched into perfecting the projector/screen alignment. This was admittedly fairly tedious to get just right. Making slight adjustments to the various feet and turning the projector ever so slightly to make sure the picture is parallel on the screen. We wanted to minimize any sort of geometric correction needed from the software so we spent extra time on this.

We eventually got there, but I'm definitely not looking forward to doing it again once our final cabinet arrives. On paper I was a bit unsure of the throw distance in terms of how far it would push the project out into the room, in practice though it turned out to not be a big deal at all for us and is just a few inches further than our previous cabinet.

Experience:

Once things were successfully installed, we started off by getting the Android TV configured with our regularly used apps. This is where one of the system's current drawbacks creeps out. If you're used to Android TV via the newer Chromecast, there's some discrepancies in available apps. Most notably, as others have pointed out there's no native Netflix app currently, though there seems to be some crumbs in the settings section that suggest it may be coming soon and Hisense's other UST offering does feature Netflix so it may just be a matter of time. In the meantime we're using a separate Chromecast for Netflix and the F1TV apps that are missing from the native system. 

From there we gave things their first real test with an IMAX enhanced movie from Disney+. Everything was stunning. Even in the energy saving picture mode the brightness and colors looked great. The image was crisp and clear all the way to the corners and the playback was smooth. We tried various levels of ambient lighting throughout the viewing and the ALR screen performed well, with only a minor bit of wash out when the full room lights were on 100%. Next up was to try out some sports, we switched the picture mode over to sports and threw on an NBA game. Same experience, things looked great. 

The playback in the fast action was crisp and clear and the overall image quality was superb. The last test was some gaming. I had always heard horror stories of the input lag of projectors making gaming a frustrating endeavor, especially anything requiring a fast reaction response. While the Hisense didn't have the input lag performance of the Epson offering it seemed reasonable for the level of gaming we do (4-5 hrs/week of mostly casual games). To test things we connected up the xbox, set things to game mode, and decided to throw two of the potentially worst games for input lag at it. Starting with some Halo online MP. Surprisingly I didn't notice any increase in input lag from the panel TV we'd been playing on and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. 

Next we loaded up Cuphead which is full of boss battles requiring fast reaction and input. Again, it played great with no perceivable increase in input time. All the while both games looked incredible and the massive screen created a really immersive play experience. All in all everything we've thrown at this projector it has handled with ease, if the Android app offering catches up with other systems this thing will be perfect.

I made the trip out to demo the Hisense L9G in person in early September. Ezra and the fine folks at ProjectorScreen.com were very accommodating and extremely attentive in helping to answer all of my questions, as well as explain things in detail so that I could make an informed decision. I was very impressed with the 100" unit that they had on display, but I chose to go with the 120" as I thought it fit our family room better. The projector and screen were delivered in early October and I've had the opportunity to live with the system for a month or so and here are my initial observations.

Full Disclosure: I'm not a technical guru when it comes to home entertainment but I do know what I like, and have enough knowledge and ability to be dangerous. Everything was relatively easy to set up. My son and I completed the full install in about 2 1/2 hours with the assembly of the screen and the final adjustment of the projector taking the majority of the time. We placed the unit in our family room which has very high ceilings and two large transom windows that receive full sun during the day. We chose to replace an aging flat panel tv with this unit and I have to say the L9G is pretty impressive.

The quality of color is the first thing that I noticed. Content that was part of our regular routine: tv shows, sports, movies, jumped off the massive screen and looked fresh. I was concerned about how the unit would perform in a room with high ambient light and I was surprised that the L9G does as well as it does in my environment, although there have been days when we have had to lower the shades a bit if it was a super bright morning. Regarding content, we're using an Nvidia Shield Pro and streaming YouTube TV for live TV and Netflix/HBO Max for movies. We chose this instead of using the built in Android platform, which works great, but does not have Netflix available.

I will say that 4K content is absolutely stunning.....and I mean stunning. NFL, MLB & College Football games are incredible. That being said, just as this unit shines when rendering 4K content, you will notice everything bad 10X if the source material is lacking. The old adage "garbage in garbage out" holds true for sure. Also, black levels on this unit, as with all other UST's, leave a lot to be desired. I personally don't struggle with this, but if you're a film lover and must have things as the director intended, then a UST may not be what you're looking for. Settings out of the box are very good but could certainly use calibration as reds were running hotter than I would like. If I'm nitpicking the throw ratio leaves a little be desired. I've had to pull out my 20" wide credenza 10" from the wall which looks a little awkward. Bottom line:

If your looking for a replacement of your existing flat panel tv the L9G is pretty hard to beat. It's packed with a lot of great features not to mention where else are you going to get a 120" experience at this price point? Hisense is offering a 100 Day No Regrets Guarantee which I believe runs until the end of 12/21 so once you register the unit after your purchase you can return it within the timeframe if you don't love it. I'll upload another, shorter, review next month after I've had the chance to live with the L9G a bit longer. given that I registered the unit as part of Hisense's "No Regrets Guarantee". If I don't like it after 100 days then I can return it no strings attached.
