Calibration
The laser TV projectors will each be fully calibrated in advance of the event for dark-room SDR and HDR viewing modes, while a preferred “Daytime” picture mode for each projector will be selected out-of-box and subjectively tuned to the room conditions to provide the best image for ambient-light viewing.
Calibrations will be conducted over a several week period before the event by A/V expert Dave Harper of HarperVision, LLC, an ISF-trained calibrator, Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) and reviewer for ProjectorScreen.com, in association with ProjectorCentral staff.
The projectors will be evaluated using a series of test patterns and movie/TV program clips that will put each projector to the test. We'll be challenging their color accuracy, dynamic range with both SDR and HDR content, resolution/detail with still and motion video, image scaling/processing, and brightness.
We will be simultaneously evaluating up to 8 projectors. Each projector will be paired with a matching 100-inch Spectra Projection Vantage lenticular UST ALR screen with a 0.5 gain and 95% rejection of overhead light to optimize black level and contrast.
Separate evaluation sessions will be held for projectors with a single blue laser+phosphor architecture and for triple-laser projectors offering dedicated light sources for the red, green, and blue color primaries. This way we'll be able to compare the projectors fairly to each other.
Detailed rankings and results from the 2022 ProjectorScreen.com/ProjectorCentral Laser TV Showdown will be released immediately following the event. We'll also be putting out a highlight reel of the event so make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel so you can get notified of when it goes live.
We'll keep you posted about any updates for this epic event!
