Our Thoughts:

Brightness

3600

3000

Each projector is bright enough to work pretty well with some lights on but the Optoma short throw has a 600 lumen advantage.

Throw Ratio

0.50:1

0.90:1 - 1.08:1

The Optoma UHD35STx has a shorter throw distance and can sit closer to the screen but it's not variable. Where the BenQ TK700STi gives more options for where to mount it. The edge goes to the Optoma its closer placement.

36.62" - 300.15"

29.96-300.15"

The screen size capabilities are functionally the same.

Projector Lens Shift

None

None

Neither projector offers lens shift.

0.47" DLP

0.47” DLP

Both DLP projectors use the same smaller chip.

Light Source

Bulb

Bulb

Yet another tie as both short throws are bulb based.

96% Rec.709

Both gaming projectors cover a decently wide color gamut, however the BenQ TK700STi has a distinct advantage when it comes to color gamut coverage.

4K/60: 16.8ms | 1080p/240: 4ms

These 4K gaming projectors both have incredibly low lag times and are among the best you'll find. BenQ gets the slightest of edges here but the difference is basically unnoticeable.

5.0 Watts Mono

The built-in speakers on the Optoma UHD35STi give it a more robust soundscape. Though external speakers would still be the way to go.

BenQ TK700STi!

Why Buy The BenQ TK700STi?

For this head to head video game projector showdown there were a few reasons why the BenQ TK700STi came out ahead of the Optoma UHD35STx.

First and foremost the BenQ short throw gaming projector offered an all around better image. It had better contrast and a much wider color gamut. We also found the motion handling to be better on the BenQ model. All of these give it bonus points for both gaming and movie watching.

Another major advantage is the BenQ TK700STi's ability to produce a quality image even in it's brightest mode. So while the Optoma at home arcade projector can output more lumens, it's maximum brightness setting is just not watchable. This majorly important for gaming projectors because most gamers want to play with lights on, where you need as much brightness as possible.

The lower price of the BenQ TK700STi compared to the Optoma UHD35STx is another advantage. You could buy 4 new games with the cost savings.

The three HDMI ports also give it a bonus for anyone who wants to connect multiple gaming consoles.

Why Buy The Optoma UHD35STx?

If you're looking for a short throw 4K gaming projector, you absolutely should still be looking at the Optoma UHD35STx. While it lost this head to head, that doesn't mean it isn't a great option.

For those trying to turn a smaller room into a man cave with a big screen, the much shorter throw distance on the Optoma projector will better allow this to happen.

We typically recommend external speakers over those integrated into the projector. However if you're planning to use the built-in speakers on your projector, you're going to be happier using the more robust speaker found on the Optoma UHD35STx.
