Epson LS800 Reviews

Epson LS800 and Spectra Vantage 120

I was wanting to buy the Epson LS800 projector with matching Epson screen, but was getting frustrated with many places only having the projector and not the screen and there is a major discount when bought together, so I decided to call projectorscreen to see if they had it in stock. they had everything in stock, but David, the rep I spoke to when I called said I would be happier if I went with the Spectra Vantage screen that it was significantly better for a just a bit more money. He couldn't price match the Epson, but he was able to offer me multiple discounts that weren't even offered online and he got me very close. I couldn't be happier with both the screen and the projector. they both did take a while to setup just right, but the picture is amazing and I'm really enjoying not having to turn the lights off to watch a movie and being able to watch sports during the day. I would absolutely buy from projectorscreen again and ask for David.

At first I was a little skeptical bc I had just purchased an $80 led projector from Amazon and I was blown away with that. This LS800 is on par with some of the best LG OLED it puts my 55 inch to bed. After some tedious research I finally pullled the trigger on this $2799 purchase over the Black Friday holiday. I am extremely happy. I play a lot of video games and wanted the best of the best when it comes to input lag and this is the best on the market right now. No more of that annoying feeling when someone walks by as this is a UST. I’m currently using a 120 white screen which does not do it justice I’m going to get a motorized ALR ASAP I can see every imperfection with the so called wrinkle free screen $80 from Amazon. If your looking for that wow factor look no further this is it. Setup was alittle challenging but I find it best if you slight let the image go over the borders then walk it back with the keystone and your good to go.

Review from a projector newbie

Disclaimer: this is a review from a projector newbie so take it as you will. But to all the other normies out there looking to upgrade their 55" LED Hisense that you got from Costco 4 years ago, let me be clear: this projector rules.

Firstly - and I know you projector-heads will cringe at this - we're just blasting this thing at a wood-paneled wall (painted white of course, we're not insane). The wall is huge, but has all kinds of seams and paint bumps. We wanted to give this "bare-minimum" setup a chance since we're renters with mid-century modern design flares that a perma-mounted ALR screen would kinda clash with (projector-heads you don't have to keep reading!). When the projector arrived (in less than a week from ordering mind you, coming ground from NJ to CA!) I immediately set it up and turned it on to see the most beautiful License Agreement I've ever laid eyes on. BIG. BRIGHT. I shouted an expletive and then READ THE WHOLE THING. I came to the conclusion that a) we had made a good purchase and b) Epson's terms are reasonable.

I called the wife in and we booted up Seinfeld. Oh my god. GEORGE COSTANZA WAS NEARLY 5 FEET TALL. It was seriously so sick, we were giddy. Yeah there was alignment to take care of during commercial breaks but it wasn't too difficult. I used a laser level to provide a good reference point and shuttled the edges based off that...didn't see that tip online anywhere ya nerds!

I then threw on HDMI 3 which is dedicated for gaming and loaded Super Mario Bros 3. Unbelievable. I felt like Fred Savage's brother in The Wizard. Just massive Mario, so much fun. Split-screen co-op has now become dedicated-screen co-op.

On a constructive note, one thing I wish the project had was controls on the safety shut-off feature. Currently the laser shuts off if you get too close, but it's not sensitive enough in my opinion. Wish I could bump up sensitivity to buy down risk for unknowing guests.

I don't know what else to say other than we're thrilled with this upgrade and would highly recommend it IF your space allows for it. We might get a screen at some point, and I have full confidence it will make the picture even better, but my anecdote is to highlight just how freakin bright and clear this thing is. You're unlikely to be disappointed unless you're unfun to be around.

I'm very happy we went with projectorscreen.com for the purchase because they were helpful and responsive all along the way! Admittedly I was a little concerned making such a big purchase with a company I hadn't heard of, but also like...have you been in a Best Buy recently? Yikes. I feel like I'm supporting a good business made of real people, and I know I probably seem like an insider shill but it's the truth.

Happy projecting!

This is my first projector after doing months of research for what will fit best in my home. The picture looks great. I have yet to setup my screen but even the picture projected on a flat white wall is pretty amazing. I will say that the setup is super finicky (which i’ll have to do again once I have my screen up) but aside from that it was an overall easy setup. The other gripe I have is the lack of Netflix. I’m going to just use an Apple TV for convenience with the rest of my home, but Google should really have Netflix as a default app/be able to download Netflix to the projector apps. It’s a bit odd that it’s still not something that’s available. Other than that, I’m very happy with my purchase!

First let me take a minute to say buying off of ProjectorScreen.com has been very smooth and a good experience. I debated buying from Best Buy, Amazon, or ProjectorScreen and went with ProjectorScreen since they had the Spectra Vantage 120" screen in stock. I was skeptical at first but shipping was fast (2 days for projector and screen) and they agreed to a price match when the unit went on sale the next day.

After months of research on different projectors I finally went with the LS800 and a Spectra Vantage 120" screen and I am definitely pleased with the results. Still need a little fine tuning in my picture but the experience it creates watching this compared to a TV (we had a 75" tv before this) is night and day. We have a semi light controlled basement with 2 windows that let some light in during the day and the picture on the Epson is still very good.

Pictured is 3 images before installing the screen and the same 3 with the ALR screen installed.

The Epson LS800 laser TV is truly an exceptional projector, and I want to address some misconceptions in negative reviews. While it doesn't match the brightness and black levels of OLED TVs, it excels in handling ambient light, surpassing any other projector I've encountered.

To fully appreciate this projector, it's crucial to pair it with a UST ALR screen for significant ambient light usage. Without such a screen, the colors might appear washed out. Epson's bundled screen or options from companies like VividStorm with motorized UST ALR screens (around $2k) are ideal choices that make the picture look even better.

Regarding color output, the projector impresses with its natural-looking hues, avoiding the overly saturated settings often found in retail demos. I've adopted the color settings recommended by ProjectorCentral's in-depth review, ensuring a pleasing viewing experience.

As for throw length, it's essential to note that for a 100-inch screen, the projector's end is about 32 inches from the wall, and increases to slightly over three feet for a 120-inch screen. While it might be deeper than some AV cabinets, I managed to integrate it well into my room without major issues.

In conclusion, the Epson LS800 is an outstanding projector that handles ambient light effectively with the right screen choice. The Epson LS800 impresses with its performance and ability to accommodate larger screen sizes, making it an excellent addition to any home theater setup.

ProjectorScreen.com was a great resource when I was researching ust projectors and related screens. I had several places to make my ultimate solution, but decided to make my purchase through ProjectorScreens.com as well, even though I had no prior experience with them. All the great reviews that I read about the support folks received both before and after the sale had a lot to do with my decision. The price was also very competitive. I found the whole experience to be easy and am very happy with my purchase.
Great pictures but user experience user interface isn't great

The picture quality is bar none the best -bright, sharp, focused with lots of contrast that got even better when I paired it with an ambient light rejecting screen.

I did find a a few annoying things with the user interface.

Connection options for the sound and accessories are also lacking. No bluetooth?? No optical audio? I was though able to get the HDMI ARC to work with a Yamaha soundbar.

Despite some annoying things the picture quality is so darn impressive. I'll continue to see if this user interface will be difficult to use or if I'll get used to it.
I love my new projector

I have had this projector for a few months now and have really been enjoying the brightness in my living room. This projector excels in rooms where there is ambient light, even without an ALR/CLR screen. I am currently using it projecting onto a 135” grey screen and I have found the image more than acceptable.

The biggest selling points for me were:

1) Best in Class 0.16 throw ratio, allowing the projector to be right up against the wall - even with a very large image

2) Best in Class lag time of 17 msecs - very important for gaming responsiveness

3) Price - ranges from $3500-$3000 if you can find it on sale

4) Name brand - Epson supports its customers (see below)

My biggest issue with the projector is that it has an issue where it randomly turns itself on from stand- by. This is due to a conflict between the Wi-Fi controller and Android and Epson is working on a fix. When I contacted Epson about the issue, they provided me a free Android dongle as a work around which had the added benefit of Netflix support. I just turned off the Wi-Fi and no more issues with random starts.

Are there projectors with better contrast and darker blacks? Sure, but in a room with a window, you can’t take advantage of that except at night. All in all, I highly recommend both the projector and Epson. It is especially good for rooms where the projection surface is a wall. See the pictures below for an idea of the image quality.

The first 2 pictures below show the image quality onto a 135” grey screen with a 1.0 gain. The last 3 images show the image quality projected onto a white wall.

The last 3 show the ambient light level, and the projected image at the Epson’s lowest and highest output - projected onto a very wavy wall painted matte white.
