Rumors have been stirring about new 2024 JVC home theater projectors and now there rumors emerging of new Sony home theater projectors.

The rumored projectors are the Sony XW5100, Sony XW6100 and the flagship Sony XW8100.

These new Sony home theater projectors would replace the Sony VPL-XW5000ES and Sony VPL-XW6000ES. These were some of the most popular and highest performing home theater projectors, so any improvement is going to further take the home cinema experience to the next level.

Notably missing from the gossip is a XW7100 that would presumably replace the current flagship model, the Sony XW700ES.

What do we know about the Sony XW5100, XW6100 and XW8100?

Each of the new Sony projectors are expected to experience major upgrades in terms of brightness and HDR dynamic mapping technology.

There's some speculation that the Sony XW8100 might be 5,000 lumens or it might be a 7,000 lumen projector. This would be unheard of for a home theater projector and would easily let you watch movies and TV shows with the lights on. That said, with projectors like the new Epson QL7000 and Epson QL3000 with their respective 10,000 and 6,000 lumen outputs being marketed for home entertainment, a 7,000 lumen home theater projector from Sony isn't that crazy.

Judging by some leaked info and photos, the Sony VPL-XW5100, Sony VPL-XW6100 and Sony VPL-XW8100 will likely be 4K projectors and not 8K like the new JVC projector lineup. This is a bit disappointing for many Sony fans who wanted see the brand match the specs of the premium JVC projectors.

When will we learn more about the new 2024 Sony home theater projectors?

Our expectation is that Sony will make some sort of announcement or unveiling at the 2024 CEDIA expo that starts on September 5th. They've got a booth there and CEDIA is the best time to make announcement for projectors debuting in the Fall.
